Nothing can replace the memories I’ve made. But I know my memorabilia is much better off elsewhere. From helping older adults reconnect through their passion for the game, to giving back to my old school team where my love of football began.

The Sporting Memories Foundation

With 130 free clubs across the UK, this programme uses sports reminiscence to support people living with dementia, depression or experiencing loneliness and social isolation.

I donated several boxes of strips, programmes, books and more, knowing it would help people open up and have valuable conversations.

“I drive here with this sad person with dementia, and I take home my husband.”

Football Memories Scotland

This fantastic initiative by Alzheimer Scotland and the Scottish Football Museum offers weekly get-togethers to support those affected by dementia, low mood and loneliness.

By joining meet-ups and donating memorabilia, I saw first-hand how sport can stimulate memories, spark conversations, and ultimately bring people together.

Special thanks to Alan and Kathy at Football Memories Scotland for welcoming me into their group and letting me participate in their sessions. And to Susie and Kelly at The Sporting Memories Foundation for helping me find a new home for my memorabilia.

Danestone Dynamos

By auctioning some items, I raised funds for new training equipment and match strips. Inspired by the 90’s kit of my day, I combined the team’s traditional colours with an updated crest and custom typeface.

I’m a proud supporter of grassroots football and hope the fresh look gives the kids the same sense of pride and belonging I felt all those years ago.

‘Mon the Dynamos!

“The boys are chuffed to bits with the new kit — you can see on their faces how much it means.”

Big thanks to Aaron Parr and Kitlocker for accommodating my multiple customisations and embellishments and helping create a unique kit the team can be proud of.
